<A Message from the Urato Islands of Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture> Lecture and Demonstration on Local Oyster Dishes in Paris, Warsaw, and Dortmund

The Japan Foundation organizes lectures and cooking demonstrations on regional oyster dishes of the Urato Islands, Shiogama city in Miyagi Prefecture from February 9 to 15, 2013, in three major European cities. Given by local oyster farmers and their supporters, the event offers opportunities to experience the rich and tasty food culture of the Urato Islands, located along the Sanriku Coast of Miyagi, home to a long history of oyster farming, having produced world-class Giant Pacific oysters from seed oysters. In addition, lecturers, who come from the city that had massive damage from the tsunami, also introduce local efforts to rebuild their hometown through restoration and revitalization of the fishing industry and oyster breeding.
