On Friday, July 1, 2022, the Japan Foundation (JF) held “JF-GJS Initiative: The 1st Japan Foundation Fellow Conference” in cooperation with the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia of the University of Tokyo (Tobunken). Nearly 90 people attended this on-site event, which was the first time in two and a half years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The presentation sessions were divided into two parts, "Japan in Asia" and "Representations of Japanese Culture." In addition, the networking session, which provided a place for JF Fellows conducting Japanese studies on a wide variety of themes to come together, led to lively exchanges and provided an opportunity to create new connections among participating Fellows and researchers. Among the survey responses were “I hope similar events will be held in the future; It was meaningful for me as I was able to make new connections”; and “I got some hints for research.”
