Commemorative message for the 50th anniversary of the Japan Foundation Awards
My heartfelt congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the Japan Foundation Awards.

The Busan Korea-Japan Cultural Exchange Association's contributions to the promotion of cultural exchange and friendship between Japan and Korea through projects introducing Japanese culture and grassroots exchange activities were acknowledged in 1998, when we became the first Korean private-sector organization to receive a Japan Foundation Special Prize.
Thanks to encouragement and support from the Japan Foundation, our Association was reborn as an Incorporated Association, and we have unceasingly developed our grassroots exchange activities with the aim of furthering the friendship between Japan and Korea through private-sector exchange, right up to the present day, when we are approaching our 36th anniversary.
A total of more than 10,000 people have participated in our cultural exchange projects that transcend the national borders between Japan and Korea, and we conduct the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in the Busan area as we focus on popularizing the Japanese language and expanding the number of learners in the area. We also make efforts in diverse fields, including annually organizing a project that commemorates the late Lee Soo Hyun, who tried to become a bridge between Japan and Korea.
This year marks 25 years since we received the highly significant Japan Foundation Special Prize, and, as a private-sector exchange association, we hope to play a role in a bright future for both Japan and Korea by expanding our exchange projects for children and youths who will lead the post-COVID era.
I sincerely hope that we will be able to cooperate further with the Japan Foundation and recipients of the Japan Foundation’s awards in the future.
