Japanese Studies Surveys
In order to provide appropriate supports to specialists and institutions of the Japanese studies in overseas, it is indispensable to discern current trends of Japanese studies in each country and region to asses the needs for support. The Japan Foundation conducts “surveys of the overall status of overseas Japanese studies” on occasion and “surveys of theoverseas Japanese studies institution” in every fixed period.
Information collected in the “surveys of the overall status of overseas Japanese studies” are: the Japanese studies institutions which show solid achievements in each country and region,current trend of the academic community, inspiring specialists in Japanese studies,research themes which gather interest among specialists, and literary works and articles that had impact on society. The surveys also analyze the environment surrounding the Japanese studies in each country. The results of the surveys are utilized to formulate medium- to long-term policies and goals for promoting Japanese studies in each country and region.
