Message for the 50th Anniversary of the Japan Foundation Awards
On Earth, as unions occur between nations under the great framework of collaboration between countries, wide-ranging, diverse, and multilayered exchange also takes place between individuals and through groups such as NPOs, in the arts, culture, sports, sciences, and also about global environmental issues involving flora and fauna, the suffering of refugees, disaster support, and so on.
The Japan Foundation Awards have come to pay attention to and honor these multilayered activities. I have great respect for this. I shiver at the solemn miracle and awesomeness of 8 billion people, all with different languages, cultures, lifestyles, and physiologies, coexisting at this moment.
