Congratulations on the 50th Anniversary of the Japan Foundation Awards.
Sankai Juku received the Japan Foundation Award in 2013, and we felt very honored since the award in effect encouraged our activities. Since our earliest stage when we began performing overseas, Sankai Juku has received great support from the Japan Foundation, especially for the 1998 Russia/East Europe Tour and the 2018 China Tour. Without the JF sponsorship, we would have never gone to those countries.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have some concerns on how we sustain the performing arts activities, and I am afraid that its influence will become more apparent over the next few years. We hope that the Japan Foundation’s support and activities will continue, so that the activities of performers, especially young performers, do not stop, and so that we can maintain connections with the audience members who come to the theatres.
