I also wish to express my gratitude for the great number of programs the Japan Foundation has carried out in Russia over the past 50 years, including the training of Russian instructors in Japan, the donation of teaching materials and books, the donation of video learning materials, the deployment of Japanese-language specialists to Russia, and aid for the development of new teaching materials. This educational and cultural exchange has made a major contribution to the development of relations between the two nations.

With the aid and support of the Japan Foundation, the Japanese Philology Department, the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Lomonosov Moscow State University has been able to improve the level of Japanese-language education it provides, creating new learning materials and adding new teaching methods to our curriculum. The Japanese Philology Department has worked hard to train Japanese-language specialists while also promoting two-way exchange as much as possible.

The department received the Japan Foundation Award in 2014, which was a great honor and served as an immense stimulus. As we promote our curriculum while introducing the language, culture, traditions, and customs of Japan, we have the highest praise for the activities and efforts of the Japan Foundation, and we hope that these 50 years of exchange will continue to develop into the future.

I pray for many more years of prosperity and growth for the Foundation.

Stella A. Bykova
