Japanese Kites and Tops
This exhibition introduces 88 kites and 80 tops, two of Japan’s traditional toys. Both were first transmitted to Japan from China in ancient times, and became widespread among the general populace in the Edo Period. Today, kites and tops continue to be a part of people’s lives, and a wide variety of the toys are made to fit the climate and lifestyle in each region of the country.
