Ms. Alissa Wahid is the founder of the Gusdurian Network Indonesia, a nationwide network that promotes democracy, human rights, interfaith dialogue, and advocates for minority rights. It was established to emulate the work of her father, President Abdurrahman Wahid. With her strong commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and fostering a peaceful society, Ms. Wahid leads and participates in many grassroots initiatives.

During her stay in Tokyo, Shizuoka, and Kyoto from February 26 to March 7, 2025, Ms. Wahid observed efforts to sustain an inclusive society that embraces diverse values. She also engaged in lively discussions with stakeholders on topics such as passing down the lessons of history and social transformation to the next generation, the importance of quality education in fostering autonomy and positive human values in youth, social transformation and peacebuilding, and the role of women in peace creation, among others.

Ms. Wahid commented that her current work on the nationwide Religious Moderation Program with the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as her efforts in the Family Wellbeing Movement within Nahdlatul Ulama, would benefit from the insights gained during her time in Japan. Ms. Wahid also looking for more opportunities to foster mutual learning in the future.
