JF Fellow’s Gathering in Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) Gender Research Center 2025

JF Fellowship × AGU Networking Event
JF Fellow’s Gathering “Japanese Gender History Graduate Student Symposium”

In January 2025, The Japan Foundation (JF) co-hosted "Japanese Gender History Graduate Student Symposium" with the Gender Research Center at AGU. JF Japanese Studies Fellows engaged in research on gender studies and women's history, as well as graduate students conducting research on the common themes at research institutions in Japan, gathered for research presentations and networking.

The meeting was organized by Chelsea Schieder, Professor of Economics at AGU, member of the Gender Study Center, and JF Fellow Alumni, and Nishtha Ahuja, currently a JF Fellow at AGU.

Following last year's event, 22 students from all over Japan attended this year's event and participated in interdisciplinary discussions among scholars from different fields under the theme "Gender Studies × Japan Studies".
In a supportive and interactive environment, the students prepared pitch presentations in a language they do not usually use, either Japanese or English. The event was not only a practical opportunity to gain experience in presenting in different languages, but also an opportunity to connect with the cohort who are conducting research in Japan and around the world.
