Participants’ Voices
It was good to get a perspective from researchers, especially as they did not just praise us or say nice things, but also pointed out areas of improvement. I was not only given good things to say, but I was also given the opportunity to do hard group work, which is very important for researchers to experience in order to build their careers.
I learned a lot from the lectures given by many professors at the workshop. They told many valuable stories from practical to academic aspects, such as how to find originality, what to keep in mind when writing papers, how they became researchers, and so on. What impressed me the most in the lectures was that we should always be curious fields that are about different from our own, actively absorb new knowledge, and maintain a spirit of continuous learning. I would like to keep in mind the advice given by the professors in my future research.
I learned how to explain my research topic to a variety of audiences in different formats, for instance, grant proposals, academic presentations, and informal conversations. I became more aware of the challenges and opportunities of conducting collaborative research in the social sciences. Overall, it was fascinating to network with scholars and postgraduate students from different disciplinary and cultural backgrounds. I gradually got the picture of what a researcher career might look like.
I have gained a lot and learned significantly from this workshop. I am about to finish my master's degree and was confused about how to approach my PhD research. This workshop gave me new pathways to think about and helped me to connect and network with people who came before me. I have returned home with a lot of clarity about the kind of research I want to do. I am extremely thankful to the organizers and all the teachers for that.Participants
