Flyer of CONTEMPORARY INDONESIA PRINTS exhibition

This exhibition surveyed developments in Indonesian modern art since the 1970s through artists working in print-based mediums, with a focus on graduates of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). It was the first attempt to present Indonesian modern prints in Japan. Initially, most prints were made for use as government propaganda (such as posters), but the establishment of university-level art schools led to a shift toward freer modes of expression. The exhibition presented 45 artworks by 15 artists working in diverse techniques—from sketching to woodblock printing and silkscreen—and representing a rich variety of styles, including figuration, abstraction, monochrome and polychrome.
