Visions of Happiness:
Ten Asian Contemporary Artists

Exhibition

Flyer of VISION OF HAPPINESS exhibition

At the time when this exhibition was held in 1995, there were projections that, in light of the tremendous economic growth in the region, the 21st century would be the Asian century, and that there would be a concurrent collapse of Western values. Anticipating the arrival of that new age, the organizers of this exhibition strove to shed light on the kinds of happiness that Asian people were seeking, as reflected in artworks by 10 artists from eight countries—China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Most of the contributing artists, who were in their twenties and thirties at the time, have continued to work at the forefront of contemporary art practice through the 2010s.
