Private Mythology:
Contemporary Art from India
Exhibition

Held in 1998, this exhibition showcased the latest trends in Indian contemporary art through the display of 32 paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations, and other works by eight artists. Following independence, Indian modern art developed under the influence of both India’s native traditions and Western modernism. While keeping mindful of their ethnic and religious traditions, the artists in this exhibition sought out their own identities and attempted to tell their individual stories through their own idioms.
