On behalf of the Japan Society of Northern California (JSNC), I would like to congratulate and thank the Japan Foundation for 50 years of leadership introducing Japanese culture and language to people around the world. JSNC, which has a similar mission of building understanding and connection between the people of the US and Japan, has been a direct beneficiary of these programs through financial support we have received from the Japan Foundation, most recently for highly regarded programs on Kabuki. Indirectly, we also benefit from all the amazing programs and support that the Japan Foundation provides that serve to plant seeds of interest and involvement in Japan, its culture, traditions and people. This interest in Japan sustains our organization and helps drive thousands of people to take part in our many programs on Japan, ranging from traditional and modern culture, to business, innovation, healthcare, politics, Japanese language, and many other events and activities. On a personal note, I too was a beneficiary of the Japan Foundation support many decades ago when I was studying Japanese language at the Inter-University Center – an experience that has led to a lifelong passion for Japan. As someone whose life was profoundly affected by my connection to Japan, I have the deepest appreciation and support for the work that the Japan Foundation undertakes and the lasting impact it can have on the people you touch.
