Invitation Program for Next Generation Curators of Southeast Asia
As part of our programs for cultural cooperation in the field of arts, the Japan Foundation will be inviting 12 promising young curators from Southeast Asia to take part in our short-term residency program for two weeks from August 25. The participants, all in their 20s and 30s, are those whose proposed projects were successfully selected during the Curators' Workshops conducted in four countries including Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand from February to June in 2014.
During their stay, the invitees will attend lectures by art historians and curators, receive training at a shipping company that specializes in transportation of art works, conduct research on Japanese artists while visiting the Yokohama Triennale 2014, the Fifth Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale and other museums as well as exhibitions in and outside Tokyo.
We encourage them to incorporate into their proposals what they have learned during their stay so that the proposals are improved to be more realistic and insightful. Furthermore, we plan to hold events to show the achievements of their participation in the program in ten cities of the four countries from November, 2014 to February, 2015.
