Surveying five Southeast Asian countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand), this exhibition featured 79 artworks by 17 artists / groups who were pursuing individual forms of expression in the face of social and cultural issues that had arisen as a consequence of rapid economic growth. The exhibition was organized in three sections: “From the Crossroads of Culture” addressed diverse intersecting cultures; “The Shifting Region of the ‘I’” dealt with issues of identity; and “Artists Making a Social Statement” was concerned with social conflicts.
