Cubisme: l'autre rive
Résonances en Asie
A year after it was organized in Singapore, the “Cubism in Asia: Unbounded Dialogues” exhibition was reconceived for French audiences. Because modern Asian art was relatively unknown in France at the time, the artworks were organized according to the regions East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, and then further divided by country. The exhibition was held at the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris (Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris) to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the institute. By bringing Cubism from Asia to the movement’s birthplace in Paris, the exhibition provided an opportunity to review an art movement that spread to areas outside of Europe and underwent subsequent artistic development in those places.
