Venice Biennale: International Architecture Exhibition

Announcement

On 30 August 2017, The Japan Foundation issued an announcement concerning the person to serve as curator of the Japan Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia 2018. However, since it was pointed out later that a certain step of the curator screening process could not help inviting a doubt about its appropriateness, the screening committee and the secretariat discussed the ways to address this problem, and concluded that the best course of action would be to conduct a rescreening.

In this course, the screening committee conducted a rescreening successively. Concerning the above-mentioned process and outcome, the Japan Foundation and the screening committee made the following announcement at a press briefing held the same day.

Curator:
Momoyo Kaijima
(Atelier Bow-Wow, Associate Professor at University of Tsukuba, ETHZ Professor of Architectural Behaviorology)
Theme:
Architectural Ethnography from Tokyo:Guidebooks and Projects on Livelihood

Although the Japan Foundation and the screening committee once completed a screening and made an announcement on August 30, we came to conduct a rescreening in this manner. We, therefore, extend our deepest apologies to the curator candidates who participated in the competition and everyone else involved.

We will post the screening committee’s overall evaluation at a later date.
