The Japan Foundation (JF) has partnered with international publishers to co-publish translations of theatrical works by five Japanese playwrights (ICHIHARA Satoko, KUWABARA Yuko, MAEKAWA Tomohiro, MAEDA Shiro, and YOKOYAMA Takuya). They are hoped to develop an international profile in the future. The works will be translated and published in five languages: English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic. JF has also selected three Japanese playwrights—TANINO Kuro, MAEKAWA Tomohiro and MATSUI Shu—from those who participated in Japonismes 2018, and will publish four of their plays in French.

FY2021 International Creations in Performing Arts Process Observer Reports

In 2021, the Japan Foundation newly began "International Creations in Performing Arts" program and organized eight performances as a result. In this program, we aim to pursue new forms of expression through collaborations between artists from Japan and abroad, as well as experimenting with visualizing the process of creation through the eyes of a third-party professionals and writers. These reports are written by the eight observers who followed each project and followed the creation process from the beginning to its final performance.
